How to maximise computer’s speed: systray

December 18th, 2006 by CCAuto

I believe, the computer are always on it’s fastest speed right after the installation process finished. So, it is the right point to activate restore software.

But before we activate the restore software, it is better to fine tune the computer. Please note that what I am writing here is all about the computer which will be used by the customer. Because, it is critical for the customer to have thier computer running smoothly and in it’s optimize performance.

You know that very often I saw computers in the internet cafes have many running background applications in their computers. May be they are not aware about it, or may be they just ignored it. Some said, the applications is too small so it will not effect the performance of the computer. The answer is absolutely wrong!

The applications I am writing about are not virusses, worms, trojans nor adwares but be aware, because sometimes they are! The applications are always staying on the systray. It is sometimes a child application that monitoring it’s mother program such as Winamp so that Winamp will start faster when it is execute. Other programs which are on same type are ICQ, Yahoo Messanger, MSN messanger and etc. Sometimes it is the full running application which just programmed to sit on systray, for example Mirc with hacked script which is always trying to log in and running itself. There are many other softwares like to put their icons on the systray.

I think, 90% of the applications can be removed safely, I meant, it is better to not run it every time the computer start and having they running all day long. It is also very easy to get rid of them.

Some of the applications like Winamp and Quicktime have the option which we can select not to show their icons on the systray. And some have no such option. What we can do is just modify Windows’ start up properties. Just type “msconfig” in Start > Run dialog and press enter to open the System Configuration Utility.

For Windows XP, Windows 98 and Windows ME, go to Start Up tab and uncheck all applications you do not want to start each time the computer start and press OK button. Make sure you know what you are doing! Make sure you know what certain application is for. So, when you think it is not needed, just disable it.
